So in America, there are a lot of laws. There are a lot of things you can’t do that you can do in Israel. For instance, you have to be over 21 to buy a drink and you can’t carry it around with you. You can’t ride motorized bikes wherever you want, you have to wear helmets. You can’t sell things wherever you want. You can have fun parties on rooftops with sound systems. You can have street parties and protests. You can’t loiter and you certainly can’t be homeless. I could go on and on and on. These are all things that Israel doesn’t care about. The only thing Israel does care about that you can do in America with great ease is guns.
In Israel guns are very hard to get as a civilian, there are a lot of background checks. You have to pass a psychological test, you have to prove that you need one based on where you live and what you do like hunting or live near Gaza or West Bank border. And even though hundreds of thousands of Jews live near the border, only a few of them have guns. They know that the guns are generally not safe and they trust that their government will come to save them because they vote and participate in the government and give the government hell if they somehow don’t do these things right.
So it comes down to choice, in America you have tons and tons of restrictions on everyday things, but you can carry a gun anywhere and anytime. Or you can live freely and have a hard time accessing a gun. I guess America, land of the free, made its choice.
